The Eastern Regional Government Hospital in Koforidua and Sanofi (a global biopharmaceutical company focused on human healths) have teamed up to provide specialised care for diabetes and hypertension patients.
They signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to help address the growing incidence of diabetes and hypertension.
Opening the clinic last week, Sanofi’s General Manager & Country Chair, Folake Odediran, explained that diabetes and hypertension have become a major concern, adding that about 41 million people die through diabetes and hypertension, representing 71 per cent globally.
According to her, the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that non-communicable diseases account for 34 per cent death and 31 per cent of disease burden.
She said Sanofi is determined to help identify and solve people’s health needs health.
The Medical Director of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Dr. Anim Boamah, expressed gratitude to Sanofi for coming in to assist the hospital handle diabetes and hypertension cases.
He indicated that the clinic project would help in-patient health education, as well as to empower patients to take good care of themselves.
Dr. Boamah added that staff would be engaged in a capacity building whilst nurses would also be trained to improve their skills in terms of diagnoses, patients’ education and the of management of hypertension.
