EU Promotes Fish Farming In Adentan

ALEXANDER NII NOI ADUMUAH, Adentan Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has indicated that the European Union (EU) is providing GH¢3,044,275 grant to the assembly to support fish farming in the area.

At the assembly’s third-quarter public forum held at the Church of Pentecost auditorium at Nmai Dzorn early this week, he indicated that the project which is expected to take off from next month (besides providing fish stocks in the value chain on the market) also targets creating employment opportunities for those among the youth who are interested in fish farming.

While commending the EU for their sustained support to the assembly especially in the setting up of a mushroom project at Ogbojo a couple of years ago, he also hoped that the fish farming project which was being introduced would be sited in the twenty-two (22) water bodies located within the municipality. He gave an assurance that it would equally be a success story.

Nii Noi Adumuah further indicated that already the assembly was working to establish a project secretariat to manage the day-to-day business of the project.

The MCE who also gave an update of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Water and Sanitation Project – a World Bank funded project and supported by the government of Ghana. He was happy that the assembly is among 11 others to benefit from it.

He added that the assembly had constructed about 734 toilet facilities for individuals living within the four zonal councils and is looking forward to adding about 266 before the end of the year.

Responding to some complains from the residents concerning the deplorable nature of the roads within the municipality, the Municipal Budget Officer, Samuel Affadu, indicated that efforts were being made to fix them, adding that out of the 600 kilometres stretch of road network, only 120 has been constructed.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, Humphrey Ankamah, leading a discussion on the role of his outfit in the management of disaster, said “most of the casualties that arise in the country can be prevented if people take safety precautions more seriously”.
