Coffie Agyemang in police custody, accompanied by the victim (the 3-year-old son)
A man, identified as Coffie Agyemang, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million.
The arrest was made by the Akwatia Police Command in the Eastern Region after they received a tip-off about Agyemang’s plans.
According to reports, the police officers posed as potential buyers and negotiated with Agyemang, agreeing on a price of GH¢1 million. He was arrested when he brought the child to a designated meeting point.
Mr. Agyemang reportedly told police that he was driven by financial hardship. Unconfirmed sources alleged that Agyemang intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, with the body later returned to him to make it appear as though the child had been murdered elsewhere.
The child has been placed in protective custody, and investigations are ongoing.
