Fidelity Bank Ghana has opened a new branch at Afienya to bring banking services closer to residents and businesses in the rapidly developing New Sebrepor-Gbetsile-Afienya corridor.
The Afienya Road Branch brings the bank’s total number of branches to 82 across 14 regions, as part of its strategy to expand its physical presence and improve access to convenient and quality banking services.
Speaking at the official opening, the Divisional Director of Retail Banking at Fidelity Bank Ghana, Godfred Attafuah, said the decision to establish the branch was driven by the growing needs of communities along the corridor.
He said the area had recorded significant growth in economic activity, with traders, small businesses, construction firms, young entrepreneurs and families contributing to its expansion.
“For years, if you lived in the New Sebrepor-Gbetsile-Afienya corridor and needed to see your bank, you travelled. You went to Tema. Today, that journey ends. The Afienya Road Branch is open and it is yours,” he said.
Mr. Attafuah said the expansion reflected Fidelity Bank’s belief that customers should have access to quality banking services irrespective of where they lived.
“Being a Ghanaian bank means being within reach of Ghanaians. Not just in Accra. Not just where the numbers are obvious. Everywhere our people are,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso, Joseph Akwetey Tettey, welcomed the bank’s decision to establish a branch in the constituency, saying its presence would support the area’s growing population and business community.
He said the Kpone-Katamanso area had a population of approximately 417,000 and noted that the new branch would help facilitate financial activities for individuals and businesses while creating opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
“I am happy that Fidelity Bank has taken this decision to come here. Your coming will help us a lot and facilitate business for individuals and also help us take care of the micro, small and medium enterprises around,” he said.
The MP also encouraged Fidelity Bank to explore flexible financing arrangements to enable smaller businesses within the catchment area to access credit and expand their operations.
The Afienya Road Branch is the latest addition to Fidelity Bank’s national network, which includes branches in communities such as Jirapa, Tafo-Pamkrono, Tanoso, Bibiani, Sefwi Wiawso and Goaso.
In addition to its branches, the bank operates more than 8,000 agents nationwide, providing customers with access to basic banking services closer to their communities.
The opening comes as Fidelity Bank prepares to mark 20 years of operations in Ghana. From its beginnings as a discount house, the bank has grown into the country’s largest privately owned Ghanaian bank, with a nationwide branch and agency network serving millions of customers.
Mr. Attafuah said the bank would continue to invest in communities as economic centres across the country expand.
He expressed appreciation to the chiefs, religious leaders, government representatives, customers and residents of the New Sebrepor-Gbetsile-Afienya communities for welcoming the bank into the area.
