A catastrophic fire swept through Accra’s Zongo Lane on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake.
The blaze, which began at approximately 11 am, rapidly spread to adjacent warehouses and shops, fueled by the absence of a fire tender and inadequate equipment.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as “apocalyptic,” with flames engulfing properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
Despite the valiant efforts of Fire Service Personnel, the inferno proved too intense, and the lack of a fire ladder and sufficient water pressure hindered their ability to combat the blaze effectively.
As the fire raged on, looters took advantage of the situation, plundering goods from the affected shops.
Owners were forced to watch in despair as their livelihoods went up in flames, with many relocating their goods in a desperate bid to salvage what remained.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains unknown, as investigations are ongoing.
