One of the burnt shops
SEVERAL TRADERS have lost their sources of livelihoods after a fire destroyed a number of shops at the Race Course Market in Kumasi on Tuesday morning.
The affected shops included a cold store, watermelon shop, and other metal and wooden shops.
According to eyewitness reports, the blaze suddenly started from a watermelon shop in the market, and before they could act, it spread to other nearby shops.
Realising the intensity of the inferno, the people in the market made a distress call to the office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to help douse the flames.
Some firefighters then rushed to the market to quench the blaze, which had engulfed a number of shops.
When DAILY GUIDE visited the market later on, some of the affected traders were busily searching through the debris to see if they could retrieve items that were not destroyed.
Some of the traders were also seen gnashing their teeth and complaining bitterly about how they have lost their sources of livelihoods, posing threats to their survival.
Meanwhile, the affected traders have appealed to the government and well-to-do-individuals and organisations, to come to their aid as their businesses have been destroyed.
