Gospel musician, Florence, has dropped the “Obinim” surname from her stage name following the traditional dissolution of her marriage to Bishop Daniel Obinim.
The musician, formerly known as Florence Obinim, has announced Queen Florence the Lioness as her new stage name.
Florence confirmed the change to blogger Tina News on September 23, 2026.
“Now my music name is Queen Florence the Lioness,” she said.
The name change comes after the traditional dissolution of her more than two-decade marriage to Bishop Obinim, also known as Angel Obinim.
The development followed reports that traditional rites, including the return of the “Tiri Nsa”, had been performed to formally end the marriage.
Bishop Obinim subsequently asked Florence to stop using his surname, saying he had accepted the drink presented to signify the dissolution of their marriage.
The issue became public earlier this month after an audio recording of the preacher surfaced online.
In the audio in circulation, Bishop Obinim addressed Florence’s continued use of his surname and urged her to remove it.
“You have embarrassed me, and I emphasise that when I die, don’t come to my funeral as a widow. Since I have accepted the drink, remove the name Obinim from your name,” he said.
