GBA President Denies Rape Allegations

Tony Forson Jnr

President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Tony Forson Jnr., has vehemently denied the ‘spurious’ allegations of rape levelled against him by a US-based Ghanaian.

The lady, who goes by the name Kuukuwa Andam, believed to be a lawyer, claimed to have been raped by the respected lawyer in 2012 at a US hotel.

But the leader of the Bar, acting through his lawyers, Beyuo & Co, in a press statement, unequivocally denied that he committed the crime and said it was “palpably false”.

“Our client, Anthony Forson Jnr’s attention has been drawn to a post on one Miss Kuukuwa Andam’s Facebook page that he committed the offence of rape sometime in 2012. Mr. Forson sincerely and emphatically denies that he has committed any such offence against the said Miss Kuukuwa Andam. He maintains that the allegations are palpably false and in due course he will be vindicated,” the statement read.

On her Facebook wall, the lady describes herself as a “lesbian, feminist, agnostic, Mami Wata Worshiper, lover of sex and all things naughty nerd vegan foodie.”

The lady shocked social media on Monday when she posted a long text on her Facebook page titled: ‘How I was raped by Anthony Forson Jnr.’, she accused the lawyer of allegedly raping her in 2012.

Her post goes on to say that she has already filed a criminal complaint with the Washington DC Police Department against the GBA president to make sure he faces the law.

She disclosed that investigation into the complaint is pending and if the case is cleared, charges will be filed against Mr. Forson.

She claimed she met the GBA president at a Ghana Bar Association event she attended before travelling to study for her masters at Cornell University in the US.

The post suggested that she had made up her mind to date married male lawyers in Ghana for the money as she felt they would “take advantage” of her “anyway.”

“After my bitter experience, I had decided that most married male lawyers in Ghana were going to take advantage of you anyway so it was better to just date them for money. At that time, I needed money for Cornell as my funding only covered my tuition. So when Tony told me he wanted to date me, I agreed…I used to call him ‘T-baby.’ He knows all these things and can admit them if only he will be honest,” she alleged.

She claimed in the post that she had arranged to meet Mr. Forson at a US hotel after he had visited the country in 2012.

The lady admitted that sex was on the agenda for their alleged meeting and said she had already ‘psyched’ herself up for the sexual encounter as she said she needed money for her accommodation and other expenses.

She, however, alleged that she insisted she would not have sex with him without protection but Mr. Forson allegedly forcibly had sex with her.

She claimed she cut contact with Mr. Forson after the incident although she, at a point, had to contact him again because she needed money.

She also claimed another prominent lawyer, who once acted as Deputy Director of Legal Aid Ghana, also ‘raped’ her.

It’s unclear whether he has reacted to the allegations that have gone viral on social media.
