Kurt Okraku
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has announced a new initiative aimed at supporting former Ghana national team players facing medical challenges.
The GFA Foundation Player Welfare Initiative will commit US$50,000 annually for the next four years, bringing the total allocation to US$200,000.
The announcement was made during the 32nd Ordinary Session of the GFA Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
According to Okraku, the initiative is designed to honour former national team players who sacrificed their careers to represent Ghana and bring pride to the nation.
“Our former national team players brought immense pride and glory to Ghana through their dedication, sacrifice and service to the nation,” he said.
He added that many former players continue to face serious health challenges after their playing careers and deserve support from the football community.
The annual allocation will establish a dedicated welfare fund to assist eligible former national team players with healthcare needs, making it one of the GFA’s major direct interventions in the welfare of former national stars.
