Carlos Queiroz
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council has unanimously recommended Carlos Queiroz to continue as head coach of the Black Stars following his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
GFA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum confirmed that the Council had assessed the 73-year-old Portuguese coach and agreed that he should remain in charge of the national team.
Queiroz was appointed on a four-month contract to replace Otto Addo ahead of the World Cup. However, his long-term future has remained uncertain amid reports of outstanding payments and ongoing contractual discussions.
According to Asante Twum, the Executive Council has formally decided to recommend that Queiroz stays, but the decision does not rest solely with the GFA.
Any new contract must receive approval from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which is expected to finance the coach’s salary.
Asante Twum also confirmed that Queiroz had been informed of the Council’s decision but said he could not disclose details of the proposed contract or any counteroffer from the coach.
The recommendation now sets the stage for further negotiations between the GFA, the Sports Ministry and Queiroz, with financial and contractual matters needing to be resolved before his continuation can be confirmed.
Meanwhile, former Ghana U-20 coach Desmond Ofei has reportedly emerged as a potential option to lead the Black Stars in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which are scheduled to begin in September.
