The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the detection of the Covid-19 Omicron variant in the country.
The Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye announced this at the launch of the Covid-19 month in Accra.
He said the new variant was detected among passengers who arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on November 21.
“It was detected among passengers who arrived from Nigeria and South Africa,” he said.
He said there is currently no community spread of the new variant among the Ghanaian population.
He urged the public to adhere to the safety protocols and go for the Covid-19 vaccination which is free.
