A non-governmental organisation called Ghana Diaspora Women (GDW) launched the Ghana chapterĀ of its organisation on February 15 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The GDW is a platform that focuses on partnerships and collaborations for the advancement of national development where women and girls are concerned.
Its launch was under the theme: āThe Role of Diaspora Women In National Developmentā, and it was attended by both women and men from the various regions of Ghana.
Speaking at the ceremony, the founder of GDW, Marie Amoakwa-Boadu, disclosed that GDW is aimed at bridging the gap between Ghanaians living abroad and home for the countryās development and encouraged women in particular to advantage of it.
The Deputy Minister for Gender, Children & Social Protection, Freda Prempeh, assured the organisation of her ministryās maximum support to ensure the success of the organisation.
She also added that she hopes GDW would collaborate with other associations in the Diaspora for the betterment of Ghana.
Madam Prempeh said her ministry highly associates itself with GDW because it is an opportunity for the women in the Diaspora to show their experience for gender equality, which would be an opportunity for women in Ghana and Africa in general to learn from women in the Diaspora.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, Mr. Akwasi Awua Ababio; Chairman for Ghana Union UK & Ireland, Mr. Emmanuel Quayson; NPP parliamentary candidate for Asuogyamang Constituency, Paul Asare Ansah, Ms. Emefa Gadze, Founding Director of Single Parents Support Network, among others.
