‘Ghana Did Not Request Covid-19 Herbal Tonic from Madagascar’

The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has clarified media reports that the country requested the Covid-19 tonic from Madagascar.

According to the minister, Ghana has also not received any sample of the medicine from Madagascar.

Speaking at the Covid-19 press update on May 21, in Accra the minister said, “Madagascar reached out to us.”

He said the Center for Plant Medicine Research and the Food and Drugs Authority are on stand by to test the efficacy of the medicine adding that herbal mixture producers who claim they have a cure for Covid-19 in the country are also going through the same process.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also clarified media reports that the government was going to reopen schools soon.

He said the government was not going to reopen schools until consultations have been done and the necessary measures put in place.
