Ghana Exports Plantain To Burkina Faso

Simon Osei-Mensah addressing the gathering

Farmers in the Asante-Akyem North and Sekyere Kumawu Districts of the Ashanti Region have begun exporting plantain to Burkina Faso due to the implementation of the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ policy by government.

Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, who disclosed this, said the phenomenon has never occurred before, adding that evidence shows that government policies are being implemented effectively across the 43 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts in the region.

The policies, he indicated, include the ‘One District, One Factory,’ Free Senior High School, ‘One District, One Warehouse,’ Nation Builders Corp and Planting for Food and Jobs.

He said government, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, remains resolute and unperturbed by challenges in the implementation of all policies.

Addressing the gathering at this year’s Independence Day celebration in Kumasi, Mr Osei-Mensah said government was also making strides in fixing the poor road network inherited from the previous administration.

“Indeed, the deplorable state of our roads is the cry on the lips of many in the Ashanti Region. Currently, several contracts have been awarded and I wish to take this opportunity to appeal to contractors to work hard and fast and deliver to perfection within time schedule,” he added.

The Regional Minister, who was not happy about the management of sanitation in the region, called on citizens to keep the environment clean.

“The quantum of fifth surrounding us in towns and cities are unbearable. We all have a responsibility to ensure that our surroundings are clean,” he indicated.

Mr Osei-Mensah appealed to traditional and religious leaders to talk about the importance of keeping the environment clean.

“Let’s us support government’s effort to rid the country of filth,” he said.

He added that the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council would next year introduce an award scheme to promote cleanliness.
