Ghana and Seychelles have signed a bilateral Air Service Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will ensure direct flight between both countries in the near future.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Aviation, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, on behalf of the Government of Ghana at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Services Negotiations held in Nairobi, Kenya, according to information from the Communications Department of Aviation Ministry.

BUSINESS GUIDE has gathered that the agreement is to be presented to Cabinet for approval and Parliament for ratification.

The agreement is set to liberalize commercial aviation services between Ghana and the Island nation, which have ties dating back to the colonial era.

In 1900s, King Prempeh of the Ashanti Kingdom was exiled by the British authorities together with his family and chiefs to Seychelles.

Seychelles, an Indian Ocean archipelago of 115 islands, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

Its pristine waters, famous carnival, clean sandy beaches attract a lot of tourists annually.

Currently, air passengers from Ghana mostly have to transit in Kenya or Ethiopia before travelling to Seychelles.
