The Ghanasco Headmistress also thanked Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for donating a Nissan pickup and facilitated the retrieval of the impounded school bus and Ford pickup from the Tamale High Court.

“It was former President John Dramani Mahama, who did the asphalt road from the entrance to the administration block, he also facilitated the building of the fence wall, a major renovation of Cabral/Gbanzaba block. Lordina Mahama also facilitated the construction of a 2 storey girls’ dormitory complex and renovation of the Lordina block.”

According to the Headmistress, even though the school has received numerous support from its old students and other institutions the school still has challenges with infrastructure and appealed for more dormitories and classrooms.

Hajia Musah encouraged students to derive inspiration from the old students who have achieved greatness in society and work hard to be good future leaders.

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, who represented Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the special guest of honour said the government is committed to the development of education and assured that Ghanasco will be supported by the government to ensure that students receive a quality education.

He disclosed that in 2022 , a $ 400,000 ICT center will be built at Ghana Senior High School by himself and his partners.

Dr. Awal also instituted a 10-year scholarship scheme for the best student in Ghanasco.

“This scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation among others for the best student in any university of their choice for the next 10 years.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama , who was the guest speaker called on government to find solutions to the rising unemployment situation in the country.

According to him, in the 2022 budget read by the finance minister in parliament indicated that government has employed over 200,000 people onto the public payroll since 2017 adding that universities across the country graduates nearly 100,000 students each year.

“So if the payroll has been able to absorb only 200,000 since 2017 it means that we are throwing about 300,000 students onto the unemployment market.”

He noted that the entire government payroll amounts to some 700,000 people saying “ just about only 2% of our population of 31million is engaged in the public sector so the only alternative for our hound people is to look for opportunities in the private sector of turn to entrepreneurship as advised by Vice President Dr. Mahama Bawumia.”

Mr. Mahama assured Ghana Senior High School of his family’s continuous support to ensure that Ghanasco continue to be one of the best senior high schools in the country.

The Ghana Senior High School has produced great personalities such as former President John Dramani Mahama, former First Lady Lordina Mahama, former Supreme Court Judge Justice Joseph Bawa Akamba, Pishegu Lana Alhassan Andani, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, Abedi Pele Ayew, among others.
