Management of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has commenced investigations into an incident in which a group of persons “including an Immigration Officer is alleged to have been terrorising miners within the mining concessions in the Ashanti Region.”

The scene was captured in a video which has since gone viral on social media, according to a press release signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the GIS, Chief Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta.

Management has in the statement assured the general public that “the said Immigration Officer whose Service Identity Card went viral on social media has been identified and is assisting in investigations.”

The statement added that “the Ghana Immigration Service wishes to dissociate itself from the misconduct of the said Officer if investigations prove that he was involved in the incident.”

Investigations, management of the GIS said, have begun. The said officer and any other person involved in the incident will not be spared if found guilty, the statement stressed.
