The annual Gold Fields Professional Golf Association (PGA) Golf championship returns this December, at the Damang Golf Course, from December 4, to December 7, in the Western Region.
Over 300 professional golfers from various African countries including Ghana are expected to participate in this year’s event (sixth edition).
The winner’s prize money for the championship has been increased from last year’s GH¢35.000.00 to GH¢40,000. It will be keenly contested by West Africa Champion and two times winner of the Championship from Tema Country Golf Club, Vincent Torgah, who won the maiden edition in 2014 and 2015.
Another man to watch will be Western Tour Champion and back to back winner in both 2017/18 season, Kojo Barnni, who has also vowed to win it for the third consecutive time. Samba Niang, Sunday Olapade and Visitor Mapuanta from Senegal, Nigeria and Zimbabwe, are expected to be in action.
Professional Golfers from South Africa, Nigeria, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Congo, Kenya etc. have announced their participation.
The Gold Fields PGA Golf Championship is an annual event which is the biggest golf in Ghana, spanning for four days, it is expected to have the best of play from golfers coming from the aforementioned countries.
The Chairman of the organising committee, Hans De Beer, who hinted the press launch would take place in Accra on November 19, said Gold Fields PGA Golf Championship was a big brand which boasts of the largest number of participants, size, well organized and purse for golfers, so it was a great opportunity for corporate Ghana and World to grab to sell and market their businesses.
President of PGA of Ghana, Tony Kwame Mintah, has called on Ghana professional Golfers to be disciplined.
According to the Tournament Director, Akwasi Prempeh, the hole 15 remains the hole to beat and second spool on the course is hole 9.
