The Women’s Committee of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union branch of Golden Star Wassa hosted this year’s Empowered Miners’ Summit in the Western Region.

The event, themed “Driving Productivity Through Inclusion and Bold Advocacy,” provided participants the opportunity to engage in frank discussions on issues affecting women in mining.

It also explored solutions aimed at strengthening the growth, participation and impact of women within the mining industry.

The summit brought together women from across Golden Star and its contractor companies. Participants from different departments and experience levels took part in open conversations on their role in mining, personal development, workplace inclusion and professional growth.

A key highlight of the summit was a panel discussion session, during which seasoned professionals shared personal experiences, practical lessons and career guidance.

A member of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union, Vida Brewu, provided guidance on legal protections, workplace policies and advocacy tools available to support women.

Rebecca Appiah from the mine’s Community Department explained that empowering women strengthens both people and performance.

“When women are supported to grow and lead, productivity improves and workplaces become stronger,” she said.

Boatemaa Hammond from the Corporate Affairs Department encouraged participants to continue building their confidence, supporting one another and taking advantage of opportunities for growth.

“It is always encouraging to see women come together to share, learn and support each other. Conversations like these are important for personal growth, stronger teams and a more inclusive workplace,” she added.

Resolutions adopted at the end of the summit focused on promoting continuous learning, encouraging active participation and advancing greater inclusion for women at all levels of the company.
