Gospel Musician’s Ex-Wife Drags Him To Court Over Property

Veteran gospel musician, Edward Akwasi Boateng, says his ex-wife, Genevieve, has taken him to court, demanding custody of their four children and 50% ownership of his Kumasi home.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Edward revealed that Genevieve served him with court papers seeking half of the property—even though she had previously returned the bride price from their marriage. The pair have reportedly been separated for five years.

Edward claims the legal action followed his visit to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to formalise their divorce, a step he said was influenced by the recent public family dispute over the late Daddy Lumba.

Court documents, he referenced, indicate that Genevieve insists the house was built during their marriage and that she assisted him in securing a loan, making her entitled to half of the property.

But Edward disputes her claims, stressing that he alone funded the construction through proceeds from his music career, particularly his hit song “Ade Mepe”, along with support from notable Ghanaians such as Afia Schwarzenegger, Tracey Boakye, and Pastor El Bernard.

“As for this house, she wasn’t with me when I built it. This house is for Ghanaians — they helped me build it,” he alleged.

Edward added that during their marriage, he supported Genevieve by taking her abroad, buying her a car, and helping her secure a UK passport.

Calling the situation a test of faith, he maintained his innocence:

“I’ve not wronged my ex-wife in any way. The Bible says trials and tribulations always come in the way of believers.”

He also thanked fans for standing by him, recalling the difficult period when he sold his music on flash drives in local markets to survive.

The case is expected to move forward in court as both parties prepare to present their arguments.
