The government and the country’s football governing body, Ghana Football Association (GFA) are divided over the appointment of next Black Stars coach.
The senior national soccer team is without a coach after Serbian Milovan Rajevac was sacked a few weeks ago.
The expatriate supervised Ghana’s worst AFCON performance yet, exiting prematurely at the group stage.
The coach’s departure has necessitated the need for a new coach to fill the void.
It has emerged that Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, is rooting for the appointment of ex-Brighton manager Chris Hughton as the new Stars coach.
To the lawmaker, the Irish tactician has what it takes to transform Ghana’s ‘average materials’ into a good team, having done same with clubs in the English Premier League.
Meanwhile, the GFA is reported to be interested in making Borussia Dortmund deputy trainer Otto Addo coach.
He told Angel FM “Chris Hughton is a coach who knows how to build with average materials and that’s Ghana’s situation now. Our materials are not good so we need Chris to weld. Otto Addo is just a second coach for Dortmund.”
Indications are that Hughton has been in Ghana for holidays and has met the family of Hudson-Odoi to talk football related matters.
