Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has assured residents of Bawku of the government’s resolve to finding a lasting solution to the Chieftaincy dispute in the area.

According to the Minister, the government will ensure the use of constitutional provisions in addressing the Chieftaincy dispute in Bawku.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng made this known during his first visit to Bawku as the sector minister.

The visit was to afford him the opportunity to have firsthand information and an understanding of the issues in Bawku.

Bawku’s protracted Chieftaincy dispute has caused the deaths of several people, and damaged properties.

The conflict is said to have had adverse impact on the development of Bawku, forcing stakeholders to appeal to the government to find a lasting solution.

Addressing traditional leaders at the Bawku Naba’s Palace during the visit on April 15, 2023, Mr. Boateng assured that the government will use legitimate means in finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

According to him, “We believe in the rule of law and the job of any government is to maintain peace and order.”

He added that, “The rule of law is our belief, and we will pursue it and make sure that people are happy and people abide by the rule of law so that we can all live peacefully… I know there will be difficulties along the way, there will be challenges and compromises and I know the core values will be protected so at the end of it, there will be lasting peace and the nation will be one people with a common agenda”.
