The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has been named the Most Outstanding Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), Public Sector Company of the Year at the Think Energy SDG Awards recently held in Accra.

GRIDCo’s recognition was in honour of the company’s effort to attend to internal and external customer needs with focus, speed, and skill.

For its outstanding performance in providing a fair and non-discriminatory transmission service to all power market participants, it received a momentous award citation and plaque.

As part of its cooperative social responsibility in fulfilling SDG goal 6, “clean water and sanitation for all” established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, GRIDCo early this year inaugurated two (2) mechanised boreholes for the Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) in the Upper East Region.

Among the many other social initiatives it has commissioned, GRIDCo aims to support the communities within which it operates by upholding one of its Core Values, “CARE” with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and development.

In his welcome address, the CEO, of Agree Limited, organisers of the award, Humphery Tetteh, averred that the essence of the awards is to celebrate individuals, companies, and cooperative organisations that are making an impact in the energy sector.

He emphasised the point that a country cannot transition into cleaner energy without transforming its energy education and training.

“We would like to cooperate with companies like GRIDCo and like-minded institutions in the country to contribute to the energy fund to help us expand the project of educating people on a number of activities being rolled out to support SDG goals,” he said.
