Guinness Opens GH¢180k Water Facility For KATH

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL), Ghana’s leading total beverage business, has commissioned a GH¢180,000 Water and Sanitation (WASH) facility for the Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The water system and its adjunct infrastructure funded under the brewery’s ‘Water of Life’ programme is part of the first phase of a two-part investment in KATH, which is estimated to be the highest investment in a single community under the programme.

Both phases, when completed, will provide access to clean drinking water to the over 42,000 annual out-patients of the hospital.

The first phase, made up of six of 10,000 litre tanks, is fitted with pumps to serve the worst affected sections of the hospital – the Reproductive Health Ward and the Main Surgical Theater.

The project also includes an expansion of the sanitation facility to include water closets and urinary cubicles for women.

The second phase is expected to provide an underground storage facility connected to boreholes to store water for use by the hospital in times of unexpected crises.

Francis Agbonlahor, Managing Director of GGBL, who was speaking at the commissioning said, “Supporting KATH through our Water of Life programme is part of our commitment to investing in communities where we operate, particularly in the city where our flagship brewery is located.

“We believe that the project will contribute to improving the quality of life of community members. As the second largest hospital in Ghana serving the middle and northern belts, we heeded a call for support to improve healthcare delivery.”
