Teachers and pupils of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Basic School and other neighbouring schools in the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Accra will now heave a sigh of relief as the challenge of lack of water – a phenomenon that has plagued their heads for so long – has finally been addressed.
Hajia Risikatu Ali Vanderpuye, a philanthropist has come to the aid of the schools by constructing an ultramodern water treatment and storage facility to serve as source of water for the various schools in the area.
The facility – a mechanised borehole – will filter water that enters its reservoir affixed to it after which it would transport the treated water to three other water reservoirs connected to the various school blocks to supply water to them.
The water reservoirs connected to the school blocks will also supply water to the schools’ washrooms thereby improving upon their sanitation while promoting good hygiene among the pupils.
Hajia Risikatu’s philanthropic work did not end there as the affable philanthropist also went on to renovatee the kindergarten (KG) block of the Kwame Nkrumah Basic School which hitherto was dilapidated.
Boni Afeti, Deputy Director in Charge of Finance and Administration at the Ayawaso Central Education Directorate on behalf of his outfit as well as the management of the schools, appreciated deeply the gesture done them by Hajia Risikatu.
He recalled that the absence of water was a great challenge for pupils of the various schools, especially at a time when the dreaded COVID-19 is still with us, as they [the students] needed constant supply of water in maintaining proper hygiene among other reasons.
The facility, he added, will go a long way to reduce the burden on teachers and pupils of the schools in assessing clean water.
Speaking on behalf of Hajia Risikatu, Rashid Kawawa disclosed that the donor attended a funeral on the park shared by all three schools some years ago when she discovered that the schools lacked water.
She, therefore, resolved to personally provide a source of clean water to serve them for long – a promise she fulfilled on Thursday when she finally presented the facility and other items to the management of the schools.
He pleaded with the schools’ management to ensure proper maintenance so that the facility would serve them for long.
