Health Infrastructure In WR Improves

Participants at the Annual Performance Review

The Western Regional Health Directorate has revealed that Health infrastructure in the region is receiving significant boost.

According to the Directorate, currently five new Polyclinics have been completed at Tarkwa, Mpohor, Elubo, Wassa Dunkwa and  Bogoso.

Additionally, rehabilitation works on the Regional health facility, Effia Nkwanta Hospital and the construction of a new Regional Hospital at Apimanim in the Ahanta West District are ongoing.

The Western Regional Director, Ghana Health Service (GHS) Dr. Nana Yaw Ofori-Yeboah, revealed this at the 2022 Annual Performance Review of the Regional Health Directorate held in Takoradi.

He was happy that in the year under review, institutional maternal mortality ratio improved from 118 to 95 per 1000 live birth which is a reduction of 25.2 per cent.

He said the regional health directorate also managed to reduce the rate of stillbirth.

He praised health personnel in the region for the significant improvement but said they should not rest until every woman who goes to their facility alive, leaves alive.

He said currently, the regional directorate has put together a comprehensive strategy to deal with maternal mortality.

“The strategy has been christened ‘Be Part’ which would be outdoored soon”, he added.

He explained that coming out with the strategy alone will not reduce maternal mortality but the active participation of all stakeholders and other partners will help save Ghanaian women.

Dr. Ofori-Yeboah also appreciated health personnel for their high level of commitment and professionalism during the Appiatse chemical explosion and during the outbreak of the Marburg virus disease in the region.
