GHANAIAN filmmaker, Peter Sedufia has revealed that he spent about $235,000 in producing ‘The Aloe Vera’ movie which featured the likes of Nana Ama MacBrown, Adjetey Annang, and Naa Ashokor, among other A-list stars.
Speaking in an interview on the Upside Down entertainment show on Channel One television, Peter Sedufia shared the story of how they secured funding for their film, “Aloe Vera,” and achieved success in its distribution.
“I spent about $235,000 in producing ‘The Aloe Vera’ Movie as at that time the dollar was not as high as today,” he said.
The filmmaker revealed that they received funding from various sources, including South Africa – Gravel Road Distribution, Canoplas from France and other three investors from Ghana to cover the expenses.
Peter Sedufia noted that due to the high standard of movies he produced with the funds, his relationship with some of the investors especially Canoplas grew after they dubbed their films into French, which were then shown in French territories.
“Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the film performed well in cinemas and was later sold to Netflix and Rok in America, generating significant revenue,” he said.
The filmmaker indicated that their investment had been recouped, and they had made a profit.
“Aloe Vera” is a romantic satire that tells the love story of Aloewin (Aaron Adatsi) and Veralin (Alexandra Ayirebi Acquah), two young adults who fall in love despite societal interference and differences.
The film takes a twist when the lovebirds are discovered missing, leading to a search conducted by both villages.
Aloewin confides in his uncle and best friend, Aloedin (Adjetey Anang), about his feelings for Veralin, and they are hidden in Aloedin’s house.
However, it is too late, as Veralin is already pregnant. The movie’s focal point revolves around the blue and yellow paint mixture that Aloewin uses to paint the baby hut, symbolizing the union of Aloe and Vera.
