Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare has offered a GHC50,000 bounty on the alleged armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers in Zuarungu in the Upper East Region.
Constables Emmanuel Akowuah and Adam Suley lost their lives when they unknowingly ran into three suspected armed robbers while on motorbike patrol within the Zuarungu Township.
Police investigation revealed that the robbers attacked a supermarket at gun point and succeeded in robbing the victim of an amount of GHC2,000.
The two police officers while on routine patrol unexpectedly appeared on the robbery scene and fired at by the robbers who were attempting to flee the scene.
The bullets pierced into the fuel tank of the police motorbike which exploded into flame and partially burnt Constable Adam Suley.
Police has conveyed the bodies and deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Investigation by police revealed five empty shell of AK47 ammunitions and one empty shells of BB cartridge ammunition. Police have conveyed the exhibits together with burnt motorbike to assist with investigation.
On Thursday December 16, 2021, Dr George Akuffo Dampare who visited the nuclear families and colleagues of the two officers who met their untimely demise announced bounty on the heads of the robbers in the Upper East Region.
According to him, anybody who offers information that would lead to the arrest of some criminals who murdered the two police officers on Wednesday December 15, 2021 stands to gain GHS50,000 as a reward.
He further directed the Eastern and Volta Regional Police Commanders to lead a delegation to Kibi and Alanvanyo respectively to commiserate with the extended families of the two slain police officers and convey the condolences of the Police Administration.
The IGP assured the families of the police officers of the determination of the police to arrest the three suspected armed robbers to face full rigors of the law for their callous act.
In order to achieve that a special anti-armed robbery taskforce has been deployed to assist the Upper East Regional Police Command in combating robbery and any other violence crime in the region to safeguard lives and properties.
