Chief Dr Chidi Anyaegbu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CHISCO Group Worldwide, has called on African entrepreneurs to prioritise investment in Africa in view of the huge opportunities that abound on the continent.
“Africa is endowed with far more resources than any elsewhere in the world and to me, this is the opportune period for any investor to look at Africa when it comes to investment,” he opined.
Addressing guests at the commissioning of Villa Angelia, a 21-room hotel located at Osu in the Greater Accra Region lately, he praised President Akufo-Addo for putting policies in place to encourage private participation in the development of Ghana.
He said a number of African entrepreneurs are quick to establish their businesses in Dubai, Asia, Europe, among others, to the neglect of Africa.
“The only way to break the chain of poverty that has characterized the majority of our people is to be active players in the land of our birth,” he remarked.
According to him, CHISCO Company, which started as a transport service provider 40 years ago in Nigeria, has expanded to other West African countries.
It’s engaged in oil, hospitality and haulage, among others.
“We are very visible in Africa through our respective investment drive enriching the African economies, as we also create direct and indirect employment opportunities the people in the areas where we operate.”
Ishmael Ashitey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, was happy that the commissioning of the hotel would provide an opportunity to promote the tourism sector in the country.
According to him, the hospitality industry is a major component of the tourism sector, and therefore very significant in poverty alleviation through income generation, employment and infrastructural development for local communities where tourist attractions are located.
“We are happy that CHISCO Group, which is a household brand in the country, has introduced its hospitality wing, and it is my hope that they will live up to expectation,” he remarked.
Femi Michael Abikoye, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, stressed the need for Ghana and Nigerian to intensify economic collaborations.
According to him, such a move would strengthen the economies of both countries to create jobs to improve the living standards of the people.
“President Nana Akofu Addo’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ initiative is commendable, and for me it should be seen as a clarion call to all African leaders to think same and move out of the domain of social and cross cultural negotiations to talking about investments and trade,” he remarked.
