The Ministry for Railways Development, as part of its enhanced monitoring programme, has embarked on a tour of the Ghana Railway Company Limited DMU workshop in Tema.
The visit was to inspect on-going rehabilitation works on the coaches.
The Minister for Railways Development, Joe Ghartey went round the facility inspecting rehabilitated coaches while engaging the workers on the progress made thus far.
In an interview with press men at the site, the Minister disclosed that work was far advanced and will soon be finished for the public to have access to them.
He said, contrary to previous plans, government has decided to rehabilite old coaches because instead of scrapping them, “We are not scrapping our old coaches.
The Ghana Railways Company Ltd has rehabilitated them and that is what we are going to do from nowadays,” he stressed.
Courtesy Call on Tema Mantse
Prior to the visit to the Tema Railway station, the sector Minister and his team paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II.
In his address, the Minister said, as the father of the land, it would be unwise on his part to step foot in the township without coming to pay homage to the chief.
He briefed the chief on the purpose of his visit and pleaded for his prayers and blessings to enable him and his team to accomplish the objectives of the project.
The Tema Manste, Nii Adjei Kraku II on his part expressed delight as he played host to the Minister.
He said, he, together with his elders and people of Tema are ever ready to work with the government to bring development to the Tema township.
He assured them of his blessings and support throughout the duration of the project.
The Tema Mantse promised to provide food for all the workers at the Tema Railway station today.
