Kennedy Agyapong ‘Tackles’ Journalists

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has descended heavily on journalists who promote foreign leagues at the expense of the domestic one.

He said the local league would have attained an appreciable height if journalists had given it the needed attention as done to leagues like the EPL, La Liga and Bundesliga.

The MP has condemned lovers of football in the country for pledging their allegiance to teams like Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, with little attention to clubs in the domestic league.

“Instead of promoting Ghana soccer, you rather give much attention to Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and others. If you had given the same time of promoting European leagues to Ghana teams, it would have built their confidence and morale to improve their standards,” he said in an interview.

He added, “But now you will see some Ghanaians supporting Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and others. Black people are very stupid. You don’t like your own.”

Two years ago, the philanthropic MP pledged to invest in football at former GFA Vice-President George Afriyie’s birthday party.

But he has pointed out that he will no longer invest in football because his candidate (Afriyie) lost the elections.

“He (George Afriyie) is my friend and I would have come on board to support him but he didn’t win the elections so I won’t support it (association).”

“You didn’t vote for the person whom I can reason with about some of the challenges confronting Ghana football, so why should I waste my money to come and support you?

“Read my lips; I won’t do that,” he told Oman FM.
