THE TEMA General Hospital has once more benefited from the benevolence of the Kokrokoo Charities Foundation.

In collaboration with GHACEM Foundation, the Kokrokoo Charities Foundation presented an incubator to the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the hospital.

The donation, which coincided with the birthday of the founder of the foundation, Kwame Sefa Kayi, brings to 50 the total number of incubators donated so far.

The foundation has a target of donating 100 incubators to hospitals across the country to help save the lives of pre-term babies.

Marketing and Public Relations Manager of GHACEM, Benny Fiifi Eshun, speaking with the media during the handing over ceremony at the hospital, said GHACEM Cement Foundation prioritises self-driven initiatives.

He said the key Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) of the GHACEM Cement Foundation is that it supports the building of schools and hospitals with free bags of cement, especially in areas the company does its business.

He said the foundation has so far, donated 650,000 free bags of cement since its establishment in 2002.

“When we saw the needs assessment that was conducted and the statistics indicating the number of per-term babies and we knew that it was also in Tema General Hospital, we owed it a responsibility to also come and help by supplying at least an incubator to save a pre-term baby,” he said.

He used the platform to urge other corporate bodies to support the Kokrokoo Charities Foundation, one incubator at a time.

“It may be expensive but if we all come together and buy one at a time we will be able to make an impact,” he added.

Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Richard Anthony, receiving the donation, said the hospital has so far received three incubators from the foundation.

“Kokrokoo Charities Foundations also helped us paint one section of the NICU, they helped us change the windows to glass windows, all in the bid towards infection prevention and control, they also donated air conditioners to the NICU,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the two organisations for their support to put smiles on mothers’ faces and also save babies.

“I thank Chairman General whose birthday is today (June 20). I wish him well and God’s blessings for him to continue to do the good things that he does,” he said.
