One of the popular Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region, Kumasi High School (KUHIS), has marked its 60th anniversary, amid pomp and pageantry.

Top dignitaries including the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, traditional leaders, academia, former students of KUHIS, and people from all walks of life graced the historic event on Saturday.

Dr. Adutwum, in his address, stated that government has given attention to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

According to him, with the introduction of STEM, Ghanaian students would be well trained and highly equipped to operate in the job market across the globe after their studies in school.

“The government has made a huge investment in STEM education across the country, to help increase the number of graduates in the STEM related field so as to enable them to fit in the job market,” he said.

The Minister of Education, who is an old boy of KUHIS, congratulated his alma mater for contributing significantly to the teaching and training of students for the past 60 years.

“Kumasi High School deserves the best of everything, and for us in government, we will do our part to resource and make secondary school education conform to modern standards across the world,” he said.

The anniversary was themed, “60 Years of Holistic Education in a Safe Environment. What Next?” It aimed to portray the school’s massive achievements and also seek means to achieve its set goals.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in a speech read on his behalf, called for the efforts of every Ghanaian to help transform the country, stressing that “the country is for all of us.”

The Headmaster of KUHIS, Benjamin Tawiah Twum, expressed joy over the school’s recent academic performances, especially in WASSCE and other areas of education.

“I’m excited to report that Kumasi High School for the past four years has been recording high grades in the WASSCE with 85% pass rates, and it is supported by sterling performances in other educational competitions,” he said.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, promised to resource KUHIS with 40 computers to help improve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education in the school.
