Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, arriving at the programme
A TOTAL of 25 new footbridges have been constructed in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, within 11 months by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
Significantly, the footbridges were constructed over some selected streams and rivers in the metropolis, which overflow their banks and get the area flooded whenever there is a rainfall.
The footbridges were to protect people from being washed away in their attempts to traverse the floods during rainfall.
The Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, said his management holds human lives in high esteem, hence the decision to embark on those projects.
Speaking during a KMA Town Hall Meeting at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi, he said the assembly had targeted 178 projects in the city for the year 2018.
He said out of the 178 projects, the assembly was able to implement 137 projects, representing 77 percent, adding, the projects were catered for in a budget.
The KMA Boss said 41 projects, representing 33 percent, were not implemented due to inadequate funds and shortfalls in some of the releases received.
Throwing more light on the projects undertaken in the city by the KMA, he said the Kumasi Metro Fire Station has been given a facelift.
The assembly, he noted, has also fenced a court building, supplied and installed streetlights, constructed 10 mechanized boreholes with overhead tanks.
The Kumasi Mayor also announced that a new maternal and child health hospital ward had been completed and furnished to boost healthcare in the municipality.
He said 2,300 dual desks, 1,200 set of student tables and chairs, 130 sets of teachers table and chairs and 100 cupboards had been provided to 15 newly constructed basic schools in the metropolis.
The KMA Chieftain stated categorically that “all these projects were implemented from the Action Plan and duly catered for in our 2018 budget”.
The Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia, KMA staff, top dignitaries in Bantama and people from all walks of life, graced the historic event.
