Land Guards Beat Chief, Linguist

ABOUT 50 land guards, wielding guns and machetes have reportedly beaten the linguist at Atwima Yabi, a community in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, Okyeame Kwabena Asiedu, to pulp.

The Twafohene of Atwima Yabi, Nana Akwasi Nyamekye, was also attacked when he was slapped back and forth by the hoodlums.

However, one Akwasi Agyapong who was with the victims managed to flee.

The unfortunate incident happened on Saturday April 27, 2024 when the suspects ambushed the victims who were in a tipper truck at a location called Akwaagyaa.

The three were in the area to inspect lands but the hoodlums came out of the bush and attacked them.

According to Okyeame Asiedu, the suspects who had in their possession weapons such as machetes, single barrel guns and club with nails ordered them to get off the vehicle.

Immediately after alighting from the vehicle, the alleged ringleader whose name was given as Kwaku Danso walked to Okyeame Asiedu and allegedly used the back of his gun to hit his face while another person slapped him from behind without any provocation.

Sensing danger, the victim attempted to flee but was set upon.

Not satisfied with their dastardly and nefarious act, the land guards turned to Nana Akwasi Nyamekye but fortunately for him, he told one of the assailants that he knew him and if he (Nana Nyamekye) does not die on the scene, he would tell the whole world that he attacked him.

“I then turned to the ring leader, Kwaku Danso and enquire from him why they were beating them without any provocation. After I had asked this question he ordered them not to attack me,” Nana Akwasi Nyamekye narrated.

Meanwhile, information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that there has been a case of land litigation between Yabi Stool lands and the Toase Yim Awere Stool over the rightful owner of lands at Akwagya and Gyani.

It is not clear if the attack was a response to a press conference Okyeame Asiedu held over the invasion of their lands by some land guards on Tuesday April 23 2024.

However, many at Atwima Yabi believe that the press conference held by the victim might have infuriated the land guards to subject him to that inhumane treatment.

Meanwhile the matter has been reported at the Foase District police station where the victims were issued with Police medical report form to seek medical treatment at any government hospital.
