A LECTURER at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), standing trial over the missing of his wife, has been remanded into prison custody.
Dr. Wilberforce Nkrumah Aggrey, the accused person, is expected to reappear before a Kumasi High Court, where the case is now being heard, on March 8, 2022.
Prior to being remanded, the accused had pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and deceit of a public officer during his maiden appearance before the court.
Earlier, counsel of the accused person had also appealed passionately to the court to grant his client bail, promising that Dr. Aggrey would appear in court anytime he was needed to do so.
The lawyers of the Dr. Aggrey, still pursuing for a bail for their client, again stated that the KNUST lecturer has been in custody since he was first arrested on October 6, 2021.
At that moment, the State Attorney, Charles Edward Yirenkyi Addo, stepped in and objected to the defense counsel’s argument that their client deserved to be granted bail.
The court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Daniel Obeng, then remanded the accused person into prison custody to reappear in court on March 8, 2022.
Dr. Aggrey, it would be recalled, has been in custody since his wife, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, 32, a Senior Lands Administration Officer at the Lands Commission in Kumasi, suddenly disappeared.
During the early days of his arrest, the suspect appeared several times before the Asokwa District Court, which eventually discharged him on Monday.
Minutes after he was discharged, the suspect was re-arrested and fresh charges including kidnapping and deceit of a public officer, were preferred against him.
He was then hauled to a Kumasi High Court to battle the two fresh charges but during his maiden appearance in the court, Dr. Aggrey was remanded into prison custody again.
Meanwhile, the same court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two other persons, namely Yaw Boateng and Justice Appiah, for stealing and dishonestly receiving, respectively.
Boateng has been accused of stealing an Infinix mobile phone of Mrs. Rhodaline Amoah-Darko in a car, and Appiah is said to have bought the stolen phone from Boateng.
