‘Let’s Put An End To Factionalism’

Seidu Sulemana

A Youth Organiser aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency in the Upper East Region, Hajj Seidu Sulemana, has hinted that there are still some divisions in the party at the constituency level, and should be addressed as quickly as possible to position the party well for election 2020.

According to him, there are still some party members who are still peeved as a result of some issues that came up before and during the 2016 electoral campaigns.

“I agree that in every election, people will support a candidate and will oppose others. This is normal because our democracy allows that, but the problem arises when people remain with their candidates after an election and refuse to support or join activities in the party. The party is bigger than a candidate and so, as members, even if our candidates don’t make it to a position; we still have to support the party to ensure victory.” Hajj Sulemana indicated.

Hajj Seidu Sulemana made the call in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE ahead of the Chiana-Paga constituency executives’ election scheduled for June 23.

He called on the rank and file of the party in the Chiana-Paga constituency not to underrate the New Patriotic Party’s ability to snatch the parliamentary seat from the NDC in the next election. Rather, he told them to start finding ways of getting party functionaries, members and supporters together to take stock of their problems and get everyone to forgive one another.

According to him, in 2016, many party members had problems and raised concerns about the NDC’s membership register in the constituency, saying, “… the party has taken steps to ensure that the membership register is clean and good for the coming constituency elections, hence the need for members to calm down and rally behind the party.”

Touching on the constituency election, Hajj Sulemana said the Chiana-Paga constituency is divided into three zones and all the zones speak different languages and have different interests, hence the need for the delegates to vote for him, since he cuts across all the zones.

He has promised to come up with ideas and plans to target the development of the party’s youth and get them involved in the party’s activities at all times.

“The youth are the future of the NDC and we need to get them closer so that they can learn from their leaders. I will work to attract other youths outside our party to increase our number and also get them developed to help in the development of Chiana-Paga.” He assured them.
