Liberty Industries, Commey Call On Rawlings

Liberty Industries, manufacturers of locally produced alcoholic beverage ‘KpooKeke’ have together with the newly crowned International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Lightweight Champion, Richard Oblitey Commey, paid a courtesy call on former president Jerry John Rawlings.

Commey, newly-signed brand ambassador of Liberty Industries  said he was delighted to be received in the home of the former president and promised him that he (Commey) will continue to achieve greater things in boxing to make Ghana proud.

The delegation included Francis Afotey Mensah and Marina Tsotsoo Agoe, Managing Director and Marketing Assistant respectively.  

According to Afotey Mensah, his outfit decided to accompany the IBF World Lightweight Champion to present his title to former president Rawlings because they believe in the sport and will utilize all avenues necessary to show support for sports in Ghana.

“Boxing is a sport that Ghana is widely known for and we are proud to be here today to support our brother, friend and champion, Commey as he pays respect to our former president. We all know that former president Rawlings has always been passionate about boxing and I think it means a lot to our brand and to Oblitey Commey to be welcomed to the home of our former president to interact with him and show him the title,” Mensah said.

Former President Rawlings commended the boxer for winning the IBF World  title and urged him not to be complacent but to continue training hard to defend the title and also achieve greater heights in boxing .

On February 2, Commey knocked out Russia’s Isa Chaniev in the first round of the bout.  He has an impressive record of 25 wins out of 27 bouts. He has managed to knockout 23 of his opponents and lost twice.
