La Liga leader, Barcelona and English Premier League title racer, Liverpool, have both progressed to the quarter final stage of the UEFA Champions League after their resounding victories on Wednesday night.
Liverpool secured an incredible 3:1 win over German giant, Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Germany.
That was after they drew in the first leg at Anfield in England.
S. Mane opened the score for Liverpool at the AllianZ Arena on the 26th minutes but J. Matip equalized for Bayern Munich on the 39 minute, forcing the match to go into a first half draw.
V. van Dijk put Liverpool in front again on the 69th minute when he scored against the home side.
And S. Mane sealed the victory for Liverpool with his second goal on the night which came in the 84th minute.
At Camp Nou in Spain, Barcelona won French club, Lyon, 5:1 to make it through to the quarter final.
L. Messi scored the first goal on the night on the 18th minute.
Brazil’s soccer star, P. Coutinho, doubled the score for the home side on the 31st minute, but L. Tousart pulled one back for Lyon, giving the French team a little hope of making a comeback.
But L. Messi widened the score gap to 3:1 in favor of Barcelona on the 78th minute, with two other goals from G. Pique and O. Dembele, ending the match on a 5:1 aggregate.
The first leg played between both teams in France ended in a 0:0 draw.
A third goal on the night for Messi would have extended his Champions League hat-trick tally to 9.
