Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has indicated that former President John Mahama and his NDC government put Education sector in hell during his tenure of office.

According to the Minister, students were not getting access to education materials and items required to provide better education.

“Under John Mahama’s era, education was not interesting because the student was lacking so many things. Common electricity student did not get for them to sit and learn at night so how can they pass,“ he quizzed.

“Four years under John Mahama, students pay for water bill and all the basic things they need in their daily life to make education easy. But President Akufo-Addo has made it free and each and everyone is enjoying”.

He made this assertion at the launching of “Free SHS Graduate Association” in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital on Thursday under the theme “Protect Free SHS for our Future Generations.”

Dr Opoku Prempeh reiterated that the free SHS never commenced under the Mahama regime as he (Mahama) is claiming and that he only sought to degrade the policy.

“Don’t be deceived that free SHS was there under President Mahama’s regime as people perceived it. If it was there why did he say he will collapse it when he comes to power?. He was expecting the student to fail the WASSCE examination but with good implementation and quality education under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, majority students had their pass mark,” Napo stated.

He continued that 2020 Free SHS WASSCE results have been the best in Ghana compared to the past six years.

He said the critics of the free Senior High School, have been put to shame by the impressive performance of the first beneficiaries of the policy.

“I wish to congratulate all the students for their brilliant performance in WASSCE examinations. Those who claimed that the policy was not achievable must be very ashamed now,” he said.

Dr Opoku Prempeh commended the supporters for the massive turn out and urged them to translate their support into votes in the upcoming general election to retain President Akufo-Addo in power for the next four years to continue the provision of quality development projects.

He said the NPP government had initiated many social intervention programmes to revamp the national economy, to create jobs for the unemployed people.

Giving the closing remark, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Free Zones Board who is also the Parliamentary aspirant for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi expressed his appreciation and also urged them to vote for him and President Akufo-Addo on 7th December to bring more development to the constituency.
