John Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama has dropped another plan to create jobs for the youth by providing goat-rearing and baking businesses for the youth in the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Yeji Lorry Station on a campaign tour, former President Mahama stated, “We will provide goats and sheep to the youth who are interested in rearing them. We will also open baking businesses for them. This is our commitment to empowering the youth of Ghana.”
He also promised to supply fowls for rearing and egg laying.
Mr Mahama’s plan is part of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) manifesto for the 2024 elections.
The former President emphasized that the NDC government will provide the necessary resources and support to enable the youth to succeed in their entrepreneurial ventures.
This is not the first time former President John Mahama has emphasized the importance of youth empowerment.
In his previous campaign, he promised to create jobs for the youth through various initiatives, and his message has received mixed reactions from Ghanaians.
According to him, “The next NDC administration will offer people the chance to launch new businesses. I implore all branch executives to seize the opportunity when it arises. If you wish to start a poultry farm, we will buy the hens for you, offer you money to feed the animals, and equip you with the hen coop.”
He explained that, for instance, people interested in poultry farming will be provided with hen coops and given the resources they need to be successful in their venture.
Mr. Mahama further explained that the NDC administration will also cover the cost of the birds, goats, and sheep that the farmers will start within their poultry business, in addition to providing them with cages to house the birds.
He added, “When the birds lay eggs, you can sell them and retain the money; and when they stop laying, you can sell the birds to make money.”
The former President promised that the government would provide some funding to farmers so they could purchase chicken feed for their flocks.
However, Mr. Mahama noted that the government will carry out all of these actions without requesting payment from anyone who will benefit from and participate in the project.
