Major Mahama Was No Armed Robber

The late Major Maxwell Mahama

A prosecution witness in the trial of 14 persons accused of murdering Major Mahama at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region has told an Accra High Court that he did not believe the soldier was an armed robber when he saw his body after the incident.

During cross-examination, Detective Sergeant Solomon Sakyimah, stated that he did not have any information on him after the incident, adding “so I could not conclude that he was an armed robber.”

“Corporal Dickson, an investigator stationed at the Diaso Police Station, told me the person was a soldier who was in the area for an exercise,” the witness stated.

Detective Sakyimah also told the court that “when we went to the scene some of the people present were shocked and some too were brave, while others were trooping there to see.”

The witness, who was stationed at Denkyira Dominase, also told the court that some of his friends in Denkyira Obuasi informed him two days after the incident that they had left the town, but he could not tell what compelled them to do so.
