Controversial songstress, Mzbel, has put an end to ongoing rumours about her marital status, affirming that marriage is not a path she intends to take.
Speaking with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM, Mzbel clarified that despite being in several romantic relationships she has never been married and does not plan to marry in the future.
“As for marriage, it is a no, although I have been in several relationships and dated multiple times,” Mzbel stated.
She further explained, “I have dated several times to the extent that some men even gave me rings, including the ring I have on now. It was given to me by my man when I gave birth. Again, it is not a promise ring but a ring given to me because, after a long period of dating, I gave birth for my man.”
Mzbel elaborated on her reasons for rejecting the idea of marriage, emphasising her desire for peace of mind. She expressed concerns about how marriage can lead to public scrutiny and loss of personal freedom, particularly for celebrities.
“It is not an issue of I don’t want to be married now. I don’t want to be married ever; I want and love my peace of mind,” she explained.
“And if I meet someone who genuinely loves me and wants to be with me forever, we do not have to necessarily get married nor do we have to announce it to everyone through a marriage ceremony.”
She further argued, “Marriage literally is announcing to the whole world that you intend to be with this particular lady or gentleman, and that I think isn’t necessary.
“This is because once you do that people would begin to dictate what you should wear and what you can’t wear. Have you not seen celebrities who are married and how people talk about them? I don’t want that.”
This declaration comes in response to viral reports from 2023 alleging that Mzbel had secretly tied the knot with an unknown man.
The rumours were fueled by photos from an alleged marriage ceremony, which conspicuously did not reveal the groom’s face. Around the same time, Mzbel showcased her pregnancy on social media, subtly flaunting a wedding ring.
Despite these speculations, Mzbel’s recent statements make it clear that marriage is not in her plans, prioritising her peace and freedom above societal expectations.
