Eleven passengers on board a Ford Transit mini bus with registration number BA 2624-16, who died in an accident on the Wenchi-Wa road in the early hours of yesterday, have been given a mass burial.
The bus reportedly collided with an OA bus and burst into flames, killing the passengers.
Ten of the bodies got burnt beyond recognition and were given mass burial on the spot, according to a medical expert’s advice. One other person died later at the hospital, whilst 10 out of 60 passengers on the OA bus also sustained serious injuries and were admitted at the hospital.
The accident, which happened between Subinsu and Branarm at a sharp curve, according to information gathered by DAILY GUIDE, was as a result of overspeeding by both vehicles at a place they were supposed to slow down.
This brings to 30 deaths in two accidents within three days, with the first one claiming 18 lives at Nobewam on the Kumasi-Accra road.
According to the Wenchi Municipal Police Commander, DSP Twum Barima, the OA bus, with registration number GT 4629-16, was on its way from Kumasi to Wa while the Ford bus was also travelling from Wa to Wenchi when the gory incident happened.
All the 12 persons on board the Ford died on the spot when the car collided with the bus and went up in flames, according to information gathered.
According to DSP Twum Barima, because the bodies of the victims were burnt beyond recognition, Dr Bosomwti from the Wenchi Methodist Hospital went to the scene and recommended that the charred bodies be given a mass burial on the scene in the presence of their relatives and environmental health persons, which was done without delay.
