HajiyaAlima Mahama swearing members of the Kumasi City Market Board into office
Minister of Local Government, Hajia Alima Mahama, has officially inaugurated a five-member management board for the Kumasi City Market Project at Kejetia.
The board, which is chaired by the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, has been tasked to effectively manage the facility to meet international standards.
The other members are Nana Agyenim Boateng, the Amoamanhene, who is the Asantehene’s representative and Vice Chairman of the board.
Others are Inusah Shirazu, from Ministry of Local Government, Edward Alarbie Borteye, from Ministry of Finance and Samuel Donkor, KMA Coordinating Director, with Patrick AduPoku, serving as secretary to the board.
A representative from the transport union and two traders from Kejetia will also join the board later.
Hajia Mahama, in her remarks, said she was impressed with the level of work at the construction site at Kejetia so far.
She said the project would be completed soon, adding that traders, whose data were captured by the KMA before the commencement of the project, would get their shops back.
The minister charged the new board to work in a transparent manner so that nobody would have cause to complain about their work.
She stressed the need for the effective maintenance of the facility, which is one of its kind in the sub-region.
Mr. Assibey Antwi, who is also the Kumasi City Market Board Chairman, on behalf of his team, pledged to work assiduously and called for public support.
Nana Agyenim Boateng, the Asantehene’s representative, said the board would engage competent people to handle sanitation and other pressing issues at the place.
According to him, competent agencies would be engaged to offer important services, particularly in the sanitation sector, before the opening of the facility in May.
