The Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has eulogised fast-rising highlife artiste, Kweysi Swat, for his outstanding performance at the just-ended Western Music Awards 2022.
The regional minister, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Takoradi, hosted the musician in his office at the Regional Coordinating Council, Sekondi, to express his admiration for his craft and how he goes about it.
The encounter comes off the back of the musician winning the Highlife Song of the Year, Song Writer of the Year, and Highlife Artiste of the Year awards after facing stiff competition from his contenders.
According to Mr. Okyere Darko-Mensah, the budding artiste has got what it takes to market the Western Region with his craft in other to attract investors into the region to improve the local economy.
“I’ve been listening to you and you are doing the right kind of songs. I love your content. You have the appeal of an international artiste. Thankfully, unlike others, you can speak other languages well, especially English. I do not doubt that if you continue, you shall soon sell the Western Region and Ghana to the global market,” he told Kweysi Swat.
“Lyrically Kweysi is very good, his messages carry a lot of weight and are very educative. He keeps putting up his very best,” he added.
Kweysi Swat has a large discography, many of which are songs from the highlife and reggae genres. He has a penchant for commenting on his observations of social and economic issues.
Kweysi Swat is credited with songs like ‘Asem Mpe Nipa’, ‘In Your Hands’, and ‘My Energy’ among other hit songs.
The energetic artiste is poised to make a difference in the music industry with the necessary support.
