Miss Ghana Foundation with Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and little Gifty Amuzu
Miss Ghana Foundation, the charity arm of the Miss Ghana brand, has donated a cash cheque amount of $20,000 to the Foundation of Orthopaedics & Complex Spine (FOCOS) Hospital in Accra.
The donation sums up the total contributions raised to cover cost of surgery for young Gifty Amuzu, who underwent a successful surgery to correct a medical condition known as scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a life-threatening medical condition in which one’s spine curves. The curve is usually a ‘C’ or an ‘S’ shaped. Severe scoliosis can affect breathing.
The Chairperson of Miss Ghana Foundation, Inna Patty, who presented the dummy cheque, praised Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and his team at FOCOS Hospital for the good work done.
She also used the opportunity to inform the hospital their intention to sponsor the surgery of another scoliosis patient, preferably a boy.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of FOCOS Hospital, Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei expressed gratitude to Miss Ghana Foundation. The beneficiary, Gifty Amuzu, and her mother who were present were thankful to the Miss Ghana Foundation for their support.
Gifty can now sit, stand and walk for long periods and also perform simple house chores. She will return to school soon, thereby, helping her fulfill her dream of being a soldier.
As part of the donation exercise, the Miss Ghana Foundation team, led by Inna Patty, Miss Ghana 2018 Nana Ama Benson and her runner-ups, Laila Issaka and Elizabeth May Maclean, who were taken on tour of the FOCOS hospital. They interacted with some children who are currently receiving treatments for various spinal medical conditions.
