Mourners Death Toll Rises To 10

Some of the deceased and the injured

It has now emerged that seven out of the eight persons who died on the spot in an accident at Ewusiejoe in the Western Region last Saturday, were members of the Tarkwa branch of the Church of Christ.

Among the deceased were the preacher and his wife as well as a four-month-old baby boy.

Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the death toll has risen to 10. According to information reaching the paper, one male among the injured died later at the hospital on Saturday while one female also lost her life yesterday.

The accident involved a Toyota Hiace mini bus with registration number WR 1955-09 and a Nissan Urvan mini bus registered CR 894-15.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the church members were on board the Nissan and were returning from the funeral of a relative of one of their members at Komenda in the Central Region when the accident happened.

A family source of two of the deceased persons told DAILY GUIDE that the church decided to send a delegation, including the preacher and his wife, to Komenda last Saturday to represent it at the funeral of the member.

The source indicated that the mourners were returning from Komenda after the funeral and on reaching Ewusiejoe, their vehicle purportedly collided with the Toyota Hiace, in an attempt by their vehicle (the Nissan) to overtake another vehicle.

Eight occupants of the Nissan, including the driver, died on the spot while 21 others on board the two vehicles sustained various degrees of injury.

The bodies of the eight persons – which comprised five females and three males – were deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for preservation.

DSP Samuel Osei, Agona Nkwanta District Police Commander, corroborated the occurrence of the gory accident.
