‘Movie Promotion Is Very Expensive’

Actress Sitsofe Tsikor has shed light on the challenges faced by movie producers when it comes to promoting their films in the media space.

Speaking at the press launch of her debut movie premiere titled ‘Evor’ in Accra, Sitsofe Tsikor who doubles as a producer indicated that movies produced by Ghanaian film makers don’t receive the necessary promotion they need due to the huge sums of money involved in their promotion.

Additionally, she highlighted the reluctance of some media outlets to support producers in promoting their movies, which further deters potential filmmakers from entering the industry.

“The movie industry is hard as it already is and we don’t get enough help, especially from the media. We called for a press conference and interviews to speak about the film to generate interest among the public ahead of the movie premiere and only a handful are present,” she made this statement in reaction to the low-turn of media houses invited for her movie launch.

She emphasised the challenges of securing media coverage for movie promotions and stressed the financial burden that filmmakers face.

“A lot of commitment comes with calling for media houses to support you in movie promotion and already when you have to produce a film it is very expensive. We don’t get any help from private entities or cooperates,” Ms. Tsikor lamented.

Sitsofe Tsikor appealed to media organisations including bloggers, to allocate time to highlight the achievements of individuals in the creative space as a way to inspire and rejuvenate the sector.

“So we are begging instead of sharing content that describes someone’s physique, please allocate a little time to support those who are doing something beneficial in society,” she added.
