MP Cries Over Bad Roads In His Area

John Majisi

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi Nchumuru in the Oti Region, John Majisi, who is stepping down as an MP for the area, has called on the Minister of Roads and Highways to use part of the supplementary budget to tackle the bad roads in his constituency.

The MP for Krachi Nchumuru, who has been in Parliament for two terms and is stepping down, said that the Krachi Nchumuru Constituency is the food basket of the Oti and Volta regions but the roads are so bad that farmers always lose their produce because they are not able to transport them to market centres as a result of bad roads in the area.

He said the 22km Boafri to Nandikrom was considered as an emergency road marked for construction in 2016 and the contract duly awarded because of the importance of the road with the weakened Nkpabre Bridge at Zongo Machire which has become a death trap, but the road still remains unconstructed.

He, therefore, appealed to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, to urgently consider re-awarding the contract after the approval of the GH¢6.3 billion supplementary budget.

He appealed to the minister to consider the rehabilitation of the Nkpabre Bridge at Zongo Machire because it has deteriorated so much and thus become a death trap.

“I want the minister to pay immediate attention to our bridge and the road because it is an emergency road, so that the farmers and people of the area would be relieved,” he said stressing that the area is noted for the mass production of yam, maize, rice and vegetables.

He also asked the minister to seriously consider the construction of the road network in the district capital, Chineri, and other roads in the district since the district does not have any single bituminous road which is seriously affecting socioeconomic activities in the district.
